A Guide on Ring Metals for Valentine’s Day Proposals

If you have chosen 14th of February to propose to your ladylove, then you sure are a romantic at heart, and as a romantic, one is naturally predisposed to things that are a trifle above the ordinary. So, I’m guessing your selection of engagement ring, if nothing, will reflect that. So, here is a little help for you romantics out there. Finding the perfect engagement ring can be confusing to say the least if you are not clear on the ABCs of the jewelry. In this article, I’ll take you through the choices of metals and try and shed some clarity on each of them in terms of practicality, aesthetics and fashion-worthiness so that you have enough clarity on the subject to arrive at a reasonable conclusion.
The choices below appear in the order of their presence in the market this year.

Gold (Yellow Gold):
Gold is back this year. That said, yellow gold makes a fashionably sensible choice to make for an engagement ring. The styles of rings in yellow gold this year will totally blow your mind. Expect to see some classic entries in this section, followed by geometric ones and completely new patterns that you have never seen before, which makes this range worth exploring. If you decide to go with gold, then your options in gemstones expand with it. Don’t stick to diamonds if you think it’s too common. Yellow gold works with all kinds of colored gemstones, from sapphires to rubies, emeralds to opals and more. So, feel free to look around.
What is the difference between 14k and 18k yellow gold alloys?
The 14k has 58.5% of pure gold, the 18k has more. 75% of pure gold. Hence the 18k Gold is yellower
since more pure gold is present. For yellow lovers-Take 18k!

Rose Gold:
The second most popular ring metal this year is rose gold or as some call it-Pink Gold. Rose gold is achieved by adding more Copper to the alloy. Rose gold has descended a place this year giving yellow gold a place to make a smashing comeback. However, that hardly means that rose gold is fading. In fact, this year’s collection of rose gold rings, if anything, indicates a long fashion life for this exotic gold metal. Pink is a color favored by most women. It goes with all skin tones and is still a pretty new thing in the market. So, if your girl has a weakness for pink, this is a good range to shop the engagement ring from.

Platinum:
If your girl’s fetish for white metal comes as something pretty strong, then there can be no argument about the engagement ring metal. Pick her choice of ring metal and you are half way there. Platinum is a great metal for solitaire engagement rings. Platinum works great with colorless diamonds and a variety of colored gems because of its neutral and high-polish looks. But, please be aware that platinum is a very costly metal and a platinum diamond solitaire, in all likelihood, may leave your wallet amazed.

White Gold
A less expensive alternative to platinum is white gold. If platinum rings seem too pricey, then a good alternative is to go for white gold rings, which has nearly the same luster and shine of platinum. Conversely, white gold costs way lesser than platinum, but remember it is achieved by Rhodium (chrome like finish metal) dipping of the “white gold” which is yellowish. Re dipping maintenance is necessary.
