Another Breathtaking Sparkler in the Royal Family of Princess Eugenie’s engagement ring
The royal wedding of Prince Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle is only weeks away. While the royal palace is busy preparing for the big day, the announcement of the birth of a new member to the family took the festive mood a notch higher. To add to the mix, Princess Eugenie of York was spotted in the streets of London only days back wearing a spectacular and sizeable engagement ring. While the first two was underway and most people knew about it, the news of Princess Eugenie’s engagement was somewhat shadowed until she was spotted lately sporting the swoon-worthy piece. The engagement ring however has garnered equal attention and for the right reasons.
Beset with a lovely pink sapphire, the sparkler is seriously heart stopping. The day she was first spotted wearing it, Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew was out for dinner. She was photographed outside a place in Chelsea called Bluebird Café. The princess was seen wearing a casual outfit comprising a plain Zara coat and a pair of skinny jeans. In contrast to her rather simple outfit, her enormous ring stood out attracting loads of attention. The princess’s engagement ring carried an enormous pink stone which was later confirmed to be a pink padparadscha Sapphire.
Fashioned in a design that bear reminiscence of Kate Middleton’s iconic blue sapphire engagement ring, this one holds its own very well. Crafted in yellow gold, the ring features a central color-colored sapphire. Embracing the stone from all sides is a halo of white diamonds that create a lovely floral feature to the ring. Named after a pink lotus, the padaparadscha sapphire is a brilliant gem that is mined mostly in Sri-Lanka. Extremely rare, and therefore coveted, a padaparadscha sapphire is prized for its pink-orange glow which is hard to spot even in the rarest of gems.
Princess Eugenie got engaged early this year and it was around that time that she debuted the piece. No sooner was the ring made public, it started drawing comparisons to her mom’s ring which her dad proposed her with in 1986. For her mother, her dad had singled out a Burmese ruby which he selected to complement the red hair of his bride. Princess Eugenie’s fiancée however took a different path. He involved her in the designing so that the engagement ring is tailored perfectly to her liking. Together they designed it with this rare sapphire.
When asked about the reason behind picking this particular stone, Jack Brooksbank was quoted saying, Why I loved it so much is it changes color from every different angle that you look at it, which is what I think of Eugenie”. The couple have been dating since 2010, the year they met at a ski resort in Switzerland. Currently, they reside in London where Brooksbank is a wine merchant and Princess Eugenie works at an art gallery as its associate director.
The couple is scheduled to get married on the 2nd day of October 2018.
