I had been searching for the perfect ring for my proposal for a couple of months. I had looked at some other websites, in addition to the local jewelry stores of course. Like many of the other posters here, I knew there was an over-inflated mark up at the mall jewelry stores, and there was no way I was going to purchase the ring there.
After looking at Diamonds-USA, I checked out some independent review sites like this one, and a few others. I was extremely skeptical about purchasing an expensive item on line, and hoping that I got what I paid for. When I saw their policy about not charging until 10 days after the ring was delivered, I was still slightly nervous, but decided to make the order.
I found the setting I wanted, selected the diamond, and ordered the ring. The next morning a rep from Diamonds-USA called me to discuss my order. She said the original date for delivery I selected was a little too quick, and she did not think they could meet that deadline. (it was in about a week or so) The reason I chose that date is because I was going out of town and did not want my girlfriend signing for the ring while I was gone. I chose another date after I returned and asked a few questions about billing. She very politely and patiently walked me through the payment process and made me feel very comfortable. As she told me on the call, they did do a “soft hit†on my credit card to make sure the funds were available, but they did not withdraw the money.
The ring ended up arriving a day earlier than expected and my girlfriend did sign for it. I was busted. (But that’s a longer story lol) I certainly don’t blame Diamonds-USA for that, just the way it worked out. The ring was just what I expected, and looked even better in real life than I thought it would.
I took it to an independent appraiser in Dallas and the ring appraised for about $1500 to $2000 more than the Diamonds-USA price!
In fact, the appraiser remarked on what a good diamond it was and asked where I bought the ring. The appraisal cost $75. I got great service and independent Insurance Appraisal Form for my insurance company.
